Revolver Magazine – Interview (video)
July 27th, 2017 by revolvermag
Legendary Pantera/Down/Kill Devil Hill bassist Rex Brown has just released his first-ever solo album, Smoke On This… (eOne Music) — a record that also marks the first time that Brown has stepped front-and-center to handle lead vocal and rhythm guitar duties. Naturally, Brown also laid down all bass tracks on the 11-song LP, with co-writer Lance Harvill adding lead guitar work and Christopher Williams (Blackfoot, Accept) on drums.
Throughout Smoke On This…, Brown offers up a lively dose of gritty hard rock, which gives nods to classic-rock influences like Led Zeppelin (“Crossing Lines”), the Beatles (“Get Yourself Alive”) and Pink Floyd (“Best of Me”), among others. In the following interview, Brown reveals his deep roots with the six-string — including the Pantera studio tracks that he played guitar on! — and his overall vision for his solo outing.
Smoke On This… track list:
- Lone Rider
- Crossing Lines
